Place de la Résistance
Since the summer of 2013, the Place de la Résistance, commonly called “Brillplaz” (an old word for swampy land), has been redesigned. Today, it houses a series of bronze sculptures symbolizing the continents of the world, placed in a formal landscaped garden, the work of Berlin landscape architect Kamel Louafi.
At the same time, the rows of plane trees that traditionally surround one side of the square have been preserved. The square, which is the beating heart of one of Esch's most multicultural district, is very popular with residents who sit on the benches or stroll along the paths of the city garden. When you enter the square, you cannot miss the large building on one side. This is the National Resistance Museum ("Musée National de la Résistance"), which has been telling the story of Luxembourg in World War II in permanent and temporary exhibitions since 1956.
