In 2002, the Israeli army razed the Jenin refugee camp. While access was forbidden to all journalists and the UN fact-finding mission, Mohammed Bakri entered the camp and filmed Jenin, Jenin to give a voice to its inhabitants. In Israel, the film was censored. In 2023, the Israeli army once again targeted Jenin. Bakri returned with his camera and met the same witnesses. Janin, Jenin, his new film, also censored in Israel, depicts an occupation even more brutal today than it was 20 years ago.
