In 1995, Luxembourg became European Capital of Culture for the first time. This marked an important moment for the country’s cultural policy: new venues and institutions were being established, while young cultural practitioners were looking for opportunities to pursue their work professionally.

The multidisciplinary theatre collective Independent Little Lies (ILL), founded that same year, has since established itself as an important pillar of Luxembourg’s theatre scene. With its innovative and often experimental productions, ILL is now considered one of the country’s most distinctive voices.

The documentary Theatre. Collective. tells the story of this extraordinary group through everyday scenes, archival material, and excerpts from stage productions. Current and former members of the collective are given a voice, alongside experts from Luxembourg’s cultural scene.
