Takeover Thursday - Hyper Slow

Where? 29-33, Boulevard Prince Henri, L-4280 Esch-sur-Alzette Art, Culture & Literature

In the framework of the exhibition “Five Hours, Fifty Days, Fifty Years” by David Claerbout

Join us for an eclectic Takeover Thursday for each exhibition at the Konschthal. These events are an opportunity to rediscover the exhibitions through the perspective of our guests. Each evening is unique — conceived by participants working in various fields, it revolves around changing themes related to the exhibitions. Through concerts, readings, encounters, performances, workshops, and much more, the Konschthal reinvents itself.

In resonance with David Claerbout’s exhibition on duration, Five Hours, Fifty Days, Fifty Years, this Takeover Thursday titled Hyper Slow unfolds inside a temporal stretch. Not a timeline, but a widening: an expanded present where memory thickens, loops, and disintegrates. Mnemozine inhabits this inter-space, where thought and artistic gesture intermingle, where the present is never singular but layered with its own echoes.

For one night, the Takeover Thursday becomes an experiment in extended time, activating the galleries through sound, gesture, and ephemeral encounters. Performances, interventions, and interruptions drift through the exhibition like slow tectonic shifts, inviting visitors to linger within a temporality that resists acceleration.

.

A number of core interventions shape the evening:

Using VHS tape, a material bearer of images, recollections, and obsolete futures, Klemmer transforms the mechanical memory of magnetic tape into a tactile, continuous act. Knitting becomes a durational score: a quiet resistance to speed, an insistence on the slowness required for meaning to take form.

GOFAI stretches one composition into a long, noisy horizon, an expanded wall of sound that vibrates through the space. The piece holds itself between collapse and persistence, echoing the exhibition’s meditation on duration: a sound that refuses to dissipate, instead thickening the air, elongating the moment, and making the gallery itself resonate.

Herrera’s intervention emerges as a living critique of surveillance, post-identity, and the erosion of the self in the algorithmic era. An apparition moving through zones of visibility and obscurity, his presence becomes an event lived only in the now: unrecorded, unbranded, resisting the permanence of digital memory. A finite moment that refuses the archive.

:

A dedicated computer station provides access to Plastic Prognosticate, co-curated by Lynn Klemmer and Berto Herrera for Six Minutes Past Nine, a virtual exhibition exploring AI, post-humanism, and artistic agency. Here, the logic of techno-capitalism is laid bare: tools that promise liberation instead bind us more closely to the machinery of optimisation, mining our lives for metrics while culture fragments into cycles of fleeting engagement. In this space, AI’s dream of the perpetual worker meets the human need for slowness, for the small emancipatory act of boredom.

Throughout the evening, Mnemozine will intervene further. Subtle gestures, textual fragments, sonic traces, specks of humour, expanding and contracting like a hybrid organism, responding to the exhibition’s shifting temporalities. A DJ accompaniment threads the spaces together, acting as an undercurrent in which time stretches, folds, and blurs.

The Takeover Thursday becomes a living duration: an invitation to inhabit the galleries differently, to drift between performances, to attune to the slow pulse of extended time.

Mediator: the educational team of the Konschthal
