Small bricks for a large brownfield: reimagining industrial heritage

As part of the 2026 European Heritage Days, the CNCI and LUCA are offering an architecture workshop for young audiences focusing on the industrial heritage of Belval.

Designed as a multi-step journey, the workshop invites children to discover the history and architecture of a former steelmaking site, now transformed into a university and cultural district. Through site observation and a mini-brick building activity, participants will be encouraged to reflect on the challenges of transforming brownfield sites.

Linked to the theme “Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine,” the workshop explores how industrial buildings, once threatened by abandonment or disappearance, can be reinvented and given new uses.
