This remembrance trail leads to various memorial sites in Esch which were erected to commemorate the victims of the Nazi regime, to recall the period of occupation as well as to celebrate the liberation. The route also gives an overview of the early 20th century architecture of the city center of Esch.
Despite the promise to respect the country's neutrality, German troops invaded the Grand Duchy on May 10, 1940. The occupants under Gauleiter Gustav Simon pursued a double goal: the Germanization of the population, as well as the destruction of the Luxembourgian state. Another goal of the Nazis is the suppression of the Jews as well as the confiscation and destruction of all their property.
Resistance movements are established against these goals. Their actions are largely defined by measures of patriotic propaganda and information of the population, by economic boycott and by the aid of the population to refractory and political resisters. The Nazis responded with strong repression as well as raids, torture, deportations and executions.

The tour takes you to the museum, the Place de la Synagogue and, among other things, the town hall. The maximum number of participants is set at 20.
