Mine train - "Minièresbunn" - Fond-de-Gras

Discover the mining trains

Iron mining has had a profound impact on Luxembourg’s history. At one time, it was a major factor in the economic development of the entire region. Although the mines are no longer in operation, mining is still an integral part of the cultural heritage of most Minett municipalities. Thanks to the preservation of the sites by mining enthusiasts who wanted to pass this rich history down to future generations, we are now able to discover the working conditions and tools of those who came before us.

The 4km Minièresbunn mining train links Fond-de-Gras to the mining village of Lasauvage and even goes beyond the French border to the former mining and steel town of Saulnes. Along the way, passengers learn about the mining train’s important function in the mining process: to pull wagons filled with iron ore out of the mine. Nowadays, visitors can enjoy the unique experience of taking the train to the bottom of the mine.

The trains operate from 5/1 to 9/28 every Sunday and on public holidays (except June 23rd) - http://minettpark.lu/eng/train-minier
