Slow Violence, Slow Journalism, Slow

Slow Violence, Slow Journalism, Slow Hope – from documenting problems to building solutions
Conference with Uwe H. Martin
The keynote will take the audience on a journey through the American West as documented by the duo Uwe H. Martin and Frauke Huber over the last 7 years:
From the historic drought in California’s Central Valley, around the Colorado River watershed, where water resources are heavily oversubscribed, on to the environmental disaster developing at the Salton Sea that is drying up after water rights were transferred from rural communities to coastal cities.
The presentation also dives into the artists long term publishing strategy that bridges newspapers and magazines, multimedia web-documentaries and interactive apps, spatial multichannel exhibitions in museums, video archives and books.
Uwe H. Martin will discuss the Slow Violence of environmental destruction, Slow Journalism as an appropriate approach to cover these topics and how visual storytellers can become constructive forces towards offering Slow Hope for a world in crisis.
